# Ajrakh Hand Block Printed Linen kurta fabric with dupatta -Indigo & Madder

Rows of madder-red triangles rise down the centre like distant hills, bordered by dotted lines and framed on either side by fields of rosette medallions. This is Ajrakh the way it has been made for generations in Ajrakhpur, Kutch: printed by hand, block by block, by the Khatri artisans who carry the craft forward.

Ajrakh is slow work. The fabric is resisted, printed, dyed and washed across many stages, sometimes over two weeks, and each colour gets its own round in the dye vat. The deep indigo, earthy red and ink black come together only at the end, which is why no two pieces are ever quite the same.

We chose linen as the base for this piece. It is light and breathable, it drapes softly, and it gets better with every wear. The ends are finished in solid black with hand-twisted tassels, which frames the print and adds a little movement.

Wear it over a plain kurta, drape it across a crisp white shirt, or wrap it as a stole on cooler evenings. It is made to be worn often and kept for a long time.

**Wash Care**

-   Dry clean for the first wash. After that, hand wash gently.
-   Wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent. Some colour may bleed in the first few washes, which is natural for this dyeing process.
-   Don't soak, and don't use bleach or harsh detergents.
-   Don't wring. Press out the water gently.
-   Dry in the shade. Direct sunlight can fade the dyes.
-   Iron on the reverse at medium-high heat, ideally while it is still slightly damp.
-   Keep perfume and deodorant from touching the fabric directly.
-   Linen softens beautifully with each wash.
