A hand-crafted kurta & dupatta set that pairs two of India's oldest textile traditions. The dupatta is worked in appliqué — motifs cut by hand and stitched onto a soft cotton ground, with a scalloped, pinked edge running its length. The elephant and paisley forms are set against ivory, in warm marigold, madder red and indigo. The accompanying kurta fabric is block-printed Ajrakh on cotton, its leaf motif built in the traditional resist-and-natural-dye process across a rich turmeric-gold field.
Together they make an easy, put-together look — the muted Ajrakh grounds the piece while the appliqué dupatta carries the ornament.
The tonal shifts and the small irregularities in the block impressions are inherent to the process, not flaws in it.
You may also notice faint gum or paste marks around the appliquéd motifs — this is the natural adhesive used to hold each piece in place while it is being stitched down. It is entirely harmless and washes out completely in the first wash, leaving the cloth clean.
