Some prints are printed. Ajrakh is built — layer over layer, resist over resist.

This three-piece set comes from the block printing families of Kutch, where each length of cotton passes through a long sequence of washing, mordanting, resist printing and natural dyeing before the pattern finally appears. The deep madder red comes from madder root; the black from an old fermented iron-and-jaggery liquor; the soft indigo-grey accents from the indigo vat. Nothing here is synthetic, and nothing here is fast.

The kurta panel carries two large sun discs framed by ranks of fine stripes — a spare, almost graphic composition, unusual against Ajrakh's typical density. Below, hand-printed buti motifs scatter across the field, and the hem closes with a striped-and-disc border. The bottom fabric returns to classic Ajrakh geometry: interlocking floral medallions in madder, black and indigo. The dupatta is soft cotton with a contrast black border and hand-knotted indigo tassels.

Slight irregularities in the print, small colour shifts, and the faint scent of natural dye are marks of the hand — not flaws.
