Handwoven Pink Kala Cotton Tangaliya Stole with Tasselled Ends

Two living crafts of Gujarat come together in one stole.

The base is kala cotton, an indigenous, rain-fed cotton from Kutch. It grows without irrigation or chemical pesticides, and it is spun and woven by hand. The result is a fabric with a gentle slub and an honest, earthy texture that softens with every wear.

On it sits tangaliya, a weave from Saurashtra practised by the Dangasia community. Tangaliya is not embroidery. As the fabric is woven, the weaver twists small contrasting threads around the warp, forming tiny raised dots called dana. Here the dana are clustered into delicate four-point motifs in deep navy around an ivory centre, scattered across a rich rani pink ground.

Along both edges, woven stripes of navy and ivory frame the stole. Both ends finish in hand-knotted tassels in pink, navy and ivory.

It is light enough for summer layering and textured enough for cooler evenings. Drape it over a plain kurta, a white shirt, or a solid saree blouse.

Wash Care

• Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent.
• The colour may release slightly in the first few washes, so wash separately.
• Do not soak, bleach or wring. Gently press out the water.
• Dry flat or on a line in the shade, away from direct sunlight.
• Iron on medium heat on the reverse side to protect the raised dana.
• Dry clean if you prefer.
• Kala cotton softens beautifully with each wash.
