Collection: Ikat

Before a single thread meets the loom, the pattern already exists.

Ikat is made backwards from every other cloth. The weaver binds sections of yarn with thread, dyes them, unbinds, binds again — building the design into the yarn itself, colour by colour, from memory and reckoning alone. Only when the loom begins does the pattern emerge.

Our Sambalpuri Ikat comes from the weaving belts of western Odisha, where the craft is called bandha. Shankha, chakra, fish, the running vine — motifs held in families for generations.

Look closely at the edge of any motif and you'll find a soft feathering where the dyed yarns shifted on the loom. That blur is the weaver's hand. It cannot be printed, and no two lengths carry it the same way.
